The Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences on Tour presentation of "Locomotion" at University of the Pacific is provided in partnership with Dea and Ron Berberian and the Cortopassi Family Foundation.
Award winning novelist Jacqueline Woodson has turned her Coretta Scott King Honor Book into this inspiring play which follows the journey of an 11 year old African American boy as he deals with the loss of his parents and subsequent split from his sister into a different foster home. Challenging stuff indeed, but when a dedicated teacher pushes Lonnie to write, the power of poetry finally provides an outlet for him to express his feelings and find a little hope for the future.
This evening performance of the one hour youth theatre production from The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is the only performance in Stockton which is being made available to the general public. Tickets for the Thursday evening show are available online through the Pacific Box Office at www.go.pacific.edu/tickets or by calling 946-2UOP
Six other performances are offered as free field trips to area elementary schools during the week. The school outreach program is designed to introduce children to the performing arts by allowing them to see a professional play in a formal theatre setting, an opportunity not available to many of our local children.
The private performances for school children are provided at no cost through the efforts of University of the Pacific and a wonderful event committee. The proceeds from the tickets for the public performance are used to offset the costs of the school productions.
