Pacific Traditions
The University of the Pacific has over 150 years of tradition. Here are a few of the things you should know about our campus and our history.
Pacific Hail
Words & music by Lois Warner Winston COP '23, '58
From o'er the rugged mountains standing high;
From out the broad low valleys, 'neath the sky;
Our alma mater calls, We cannot fail,
Our voices blend in praise, Pacific Hail! Pacific Hail!
Long may her flaming torch give out its light;
Long may her spirit guide us in the right;
To her we pledge our hearts, We dare not fail;
To her we raise our song,
Pacific Hail! Pacific Hail!
The bells in Burns Tower play Pacific Hail every night at 11 pm.
Tiger Roar

|
Started in 2003, Tiger Roar is part of New Student Convocation. Held during Welcome Weekend, students, faculty, alumni, and staff gather outside of Faye Spanos Concert Hall to surprise new students to Pacific with a ROAR. Pick up your Pacific pin from an alumni volunteer and wear it with pride to campus events. |
Mascot
| The Tiger tradition began in 1908 when the Pacific rugby team started wearing orange and black socks on the field. The nickname “the Tigers” came from their striped socks and soon spread to all athletic teams. There have been many tiger mascots, but today Powercat is the symbol of Pacific’s perseverance and pride. |

The Rocks
Painting the rocks is a longstanding student competition and tradition. Show your pride for a student organization on these rocks donated by the Class of 1966. Remember: don’t paint too early and be prepared to guard your masterpiece through the night.

The Orange Army
|
The color orange has been part of the Pacific tradition since 1851 when it was chosen to represent the numerous fields of California poppies. Join the student spirit section, the Orange Army, at athletic events and cheer on your Pacific Tigers!

Fight Song
Words and music by Bob Couchman '22 Composed by Russ Bodley '23
Come on you hungry tigers - fight- fight- fight
Let's win the game you tigers - fight- fight- fight
See the tigers breaking through, After goals, we'll get them too-
Fighting for UOP, We're after victory-
So hail, oh hail the orange and black
See those banners gleam-
We'll shout for fame, Cause we'll win the game!!
We're the fighting tiger- We're the fighting tiger-
We're the fighting tiger team!!

ASuop

Since 1915, the Associated Students of the University of the Pacific (ASuop) have been speaking out for Pacific’s student body. Integral to the University Division of Student Life, ASuop is your “link to everything you need to know about student life and events on campus”. In the past, the Associated Students have brought Spike Lee, Aaron McGruder, and Common to campus. |
